Product Description

A weld on differential guard that covers the vulnerable area on the Land Rover axle.  The center 'diff' part on the axle is made from extremely thin material and needs further reinforcement for serious off-road use.

This guard is made from 6mm mild steel and is available either galvanized (hot dip) or unfinished (raw), suitable for painting.  The differential guard can be welded on without removing the axle and half shafts, either using stick, MIG, or TIG.  We recommend removal of the axle internals if using oxyacetelyn.

The shape forms a useful 'skid' to assist passage over rocks and other potential hang-ups.

Fits most solid axle Land Rovers, front and rear.

For Range Rover P38, it will fit the rear only (without modification).
Discovery 2 filler plugs will be harder to access, and careful positioning of the front guard will be needed to ensure no contact with the panhard rod on full flex.

Please state "raw" or "galvanized" in the ordering selection (note: the galvanized option is a heavy duty hot-dip zinc finish and may contain imperfections normal in this process).

Note:

It has been brought to our attention that welding zinc plated material could cause toxic fumes.  Please ensure adequate respiratory precautions are taken prior to welding on the zinc plated version of this guard.  Refer to a professional welder if in doubt about your ability to do this safely.

Although extensive research into the effects of zinc oxide fumes has been done, and although breathing those fumes may cause welders to think that they have flu type symptoms, there have been no long-term health effects established.

"Extensive Research" refers to "Walsh, Sandstead, Prasad, Newberne and Fraker, Environmental Health Perspectives, Volume 102, Supplement 2, June 1994, 5-46. Provides summary plus 471 references."
